A locally made 12 gauge pistol or ‘paltik’ handed in to police in January. These are very popular underground firearms in the region but pack a ridiculous kick.

A local craft made bolt action 12 gauge shotgun typically produced by rural gunsmiths. The bolt handle appears to have battered and peened back the locking slot. Seized in Manilla.

Local craft made firearms (Mindanao, Philippines)

Typical locally made firearms from Mindanao in the southern Philippines. Magazine fed bolt action combat shotguns as well as revolvers chambered in 5.56 have long been produced by local gunsmiths and are still seen turning up today.

“12 Gauge made from hardware store items. The shotgun is cocked by pulling the entire barrel forward several inches until it locks into place. Then a shell is loaded through the breech. When the trigger is pulled the barrel retracts back into the receiver and carries the shell to the firing pin. Pulling the barrel forward again extracts the spent shell and tipping the shotgun to the side dumps the shell on the ground.”
