I presume it is chambered for the rifle round shown; which looks like a .303 British cartridge with a roundy nose bullet instead of the typical Mk VII spitzer type.

Many winters ago in my mis-spent youth, I fired a Lancaster brand “Howdah” pistol. It was (still is, I suppose) a two shot, over and under, tip down to load, pistol chambered for .577 Snyder. The recoil is – ah – most enthusiastic.

I’d be just a little concerned that home made heater would hold together when firing. The gap between the end of the barrel and the recoil shield doesn’t fill me with confidence, either.
